Founder and CEO of Bruin Sports Capital
George Pyne, the Founder and CEO of Bruin Capital, is a highly respected leader in the global sports industry. For more than three decades, he has demonstrated the rare and unique ability to architect business transformation, realizing billions in revenue and shareholder value. Bruin, his latest venture, is a reflection of his experiences, specifically crafted to capitalize on industry change and turn burgeoning companies into global leaders of their sector.
George's career is marked by his exceptional instincts to identify potential and then turn it into immense value. Bruin Capital is a shining example of this. What started as a temporary office has now grown into a global entity with holdings and operations on five continents, serving virtually every major sports league, governing body, rights holder, and billions of sports fans. He is the only executive named one of the sports industry's most influential leaders while a steward of three different businesses.
George's leadership at Bruin follows his transformative role at IMG Sports and Entertainment, where he was responsible for substantial revenue and earnings growth. The iconic Ted Forstmann handpicked him for that role, and his strategic leadership culminated in a sale of IMG for $2.4B—more than three times its original purchase price. Prior to IMG, as NASCAR COO and Board Member, he designed the commercialization plan that elevated the sport from a regional entity to an elite U.S. sports league, generating billions in commercial value.
He began his career with his family’s real estate business in Massachusetts before relocating to Atlanta, GA, where his full analysis of the city’s public school budget and operations led to sweeping reforms. He went on to work for Portman Companies, the eponymous commercial real estate and architectural firm founded by the iconic architect. At Portman, he organized a $2B debt restructuring while also launching his first sports marketing business.
George is a Trustee for Choate Rosemary Hall and sits on the Board of the National Football Foundation. He is a Brown University graduate, a former captain of the All-Ivy League, and an All-New England honoree as an offensive lineman for the then-Bruins. He and his wife Helene reside in Connecticut and have four children.
