Bill James is a prolific baseball writer, historian and statistician whose work spans more than four decades. Since publishing his first Baseball Abstract in 1977, he has authored over two dozen books devoted to baseball history and statistics. His approach, which he termed sabermetrics in reference to the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR), scientifically evaluates statistical data in attempting to determine why teams win and lose. Bill is an owner and advisor of Sports Info Solutions and continues to discuss baseball, sports and other topics at Bill James Online. He previously served as a senior Baseball Operations Advisor for the Boston Red Sox.

In 2006, Time magazine named him in the Time 100 as one of the most influential people in the world.
