Paul Sabin is a Sr. Sports Analytics Fellow in Wharton AI & Analytics, Lecturer in Statistics and Data Science at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and Co-Founder of Sage Sports Group. He works at the intersection of advanced modeling, competitive strategy, and capital allocation in professional, specializing in predictive and Bayesian decision systems that drive long-term value.

Paul previously served as a Principal Sports Data Scientist at ESPN, where he developed several of the company’s most influential proprietary metrics, including the Basketball Power Index (BPI), Strength of Record (SOR), the Allstate Playoff Predictor for the College Football Playoff, the NBA Draft model, ESPN fantasy soccer projections, and the CFB PlayStation Player Impact Rating. His models shaped national broadcasts, informed selection committees and playoff debates, and reached millions across ESPN’s television and digital platforms.

He later became Vice President of Football Analytics at Sūmer Sports, advising NFL organizations on roster construction, game strategy, performance, and organizational strategic planning.

Through Sage Sports Group, Paul now deploys institutional-grade analytics in sports ownership and investment strategy, targeting undervalued clubs in global football and basketball. His approach combines predictive modeling, structural inefficiency identification, and long-horizon performance optimization to build durable competitive and enterprise value.

Paul holds a Ph.D. in statistics from Virginia Tech and an M.S. degree in statistics and a B.S. degree in statistics and French from Brigham Young University.
