Jim Naples, M.D. is a surgeon-educator at Harvard Medical School/ Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. He is the Residency Program Director Of the Otolaryngology Training Program, Director of Mental Training and Performance for the office of Graduate Medical Education, and advisor to Harvard Medical Students. In addition to his education roles, he serves as deputy editor for the journal Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery.

His professional interests involve program development and understanding the intersect of healthcare with outside disciplines. Dr. Naples helped start a new Otolaryngology residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in 2020. He also established a novel resident- and faculty- development course in “Performance Mindset in Medicine.” He has collaborated with a performance psychologist from the US Olympic team to formally integrate mental training as a tool for physicians and healthcare workers. His work has been highlighted in Harvard Medical School Executive Education Program and the Washington Post.

His clinical practice covers all diseases of the ear and skull base surgery. He has published extensively on these topics with over 75 peer-reviewed publications. He completed is medical school and residency training at the University of Connecticut and fellowship in neuro-otology at University of Pennsylvania.
