About

Ben Cohen writes the Science of Success column for The Wall Street Journal about why people, teams and ideas work in business, sports, culture and beyond. Before launching the column last year, he was the Journal's national NBA reporter from 2014 to 2022, writing about the strategies and oddities of the league as basketball was transformed by starpower, shooting and statistical analysis. He covered almost every sport over more than a decade with WSJ Sports, including three Olympics. He's also the author of The Hot Hand, a book about the mystery, science and magic of streaks. He graduated from Duke University and lives in New York with his family.
