Nils Rudi is a faculty member at Yale University, holding a primary appointment at the School of Management and a secondary appointment in the Department of Statistics and Data Science. His academic background is in Operations Management, a field he first engaged with as a computer programmer of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems at Movex. He later founded Minard, a company specializing in decision support systems for forecasting and inventory management, which went public on the Oslo Stock Exchange in 1996.
His research primarily focuses on managing uncertainty in supply chains and integrating these insights with other business functions, including marketing, finance, information systems, and accounting. His work has been published in leading academic journals and has informed numerous projects with companies ranging from startups to Fortune 500 firms.
In recent years, his research has expanded into disciplines such as Sports Analytics, Cognitive Psychology, Education Research, Health Care, and Law, all connected by a common interest in uncertainty and data science.
At Yale, he teaches the core course in Probability Modeling for the MBA and EMBA programs, a core PhD course in Operations titled Modeling Operational Processes, and co-teaches an elective in Sports Analytics. He also co-developed and co-teaches Beyond Reasonable Doubt at Yale Law School.
Rudi earned his undergraduate degree while working as a computer programmer before completing a PhD at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He previously served on the faculty at the University of Rochester for six years and at INSEAD for 13 years before joining Yale in 2018.
