Speaker Profile

Ken Pomeroy
Ken Pomeroy is the founder and operator of kenpom.com, a site that has become a standard reference across men’s college basketball. He launched the site in 2004 and eventually gave up a career as a meteorologist to work in basketball full-time. The site has become a standard reference across men’s college basketball. His efficiency-based ratings and statistics - built on tempo-free principles that separate pace from performance - revolutionized how teams, coaches, media, and fans evaluate success.
By focusing on possessions rather than raw totals, Pomeroy helped shift the sport’s analytical conversation toward what actually predicts winning. His work is frequently cited by media and coaches, and his rankings are used as inputs for forecasting models and tournament analysis. He has also consulted for college and NBA teams and has written pieces for espn.com and The Athletic.
After aging out of his pickup basketball career, he took up curling in 2014, playing in a few bonspiels a year. When the 2020 NCAA tournament was cancelled, Ken used his free time to start his curling analytics site, doubletakeout.com, where he applies probabilistic and simulation-based approaches to strategy and win expectancy. This work has been consulted by many competitive teams, including some of the best in the world.
