Galen Clavio

Professor of Sports Media,, Indiana University

About

Galen serves as both an Associate Professor of Sports Media and the Director of the National Sports Journalism Center at Indiana University. Galen also serves as the head of the Sports Media program. His research focuses on the impact of new and social media on interactions between consumers, media, and sports entities, including social media's impact on journalism, content creation among fans, and the hybridization of communications and marketing in the digital sphere. He has authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications. Galen's teaching draws upon his professional experience as a broadcaster, reporter, and media relations director. He teaches courses in sportscasting and play-by-play and applied uses of social media in sports media, sports and society. Galen graduated from Indiana University in 2001, and worked for several years in the sports media field. He received his Ph. D. from IU in 2008, and served as a faculty member for two years at the University of Miami.
