David Martin
David Martin, PhD, is the Director of Science at Perry Weather, specializing in environmental monitoring, heat stress, hydration, and athlete safety. He previously served as Co-Director of Athlete Performance and Safety at the Korey Stringer Institute at the University of Connecticut, where he led research studies with the Department of Defense, NFL, and industry partners and oversaw elite athlete testing programs. He also played a key role in launching the Connecticut Health, Athletic, and Mental Performance Center at Southern Connecticut State University, where he is currently an adjunct professor teaching sports analytics. He has lectured at the NFL combine on IV versus oral hydration and micronutrient supplementation, the American College of Sports Medicine National Conference on triathlon safety, and to athletic trainers on best practices and polices for athlete safety. He also serves as a scientific advisor for the global triathlon safety database. David earned his PhD from UConn under the mentorship of Dr. Doug Casa where he studied the effects of creatine supplementation during heat acclimation. Outside of research, he is a USA Triathlon National Champion, three-time All-American, professional endurance coach and former Team USA representative. He also holds the fastest known time on the Connecticut section of the Appalachian trail and the Jack Bristol Ultramarathon, one of the oldest ultramarathons in the country.
