Across Court and Sand: Applied Analytics in Volleyball

The structure of a sport plays a central role in shaping how analytics can be designed and applied. This talk explores sports analytics through the lens of volleyball, a sport whose structure emphasizes interdependence, phases of play, and context in ways that differ from many commonly studied sports. Using beach volleyball as a primary example, the presentation also offers insight into what working with data looks like inside a Canadian National Sport Organization, and how analytics is applied in practical decision-making environments under real-world constraints.
