Dr. Roland A. Carlstedt is a licensed clinical psychologist, board-certified sport psychologist and Chairman and Chief Sport Psychologist of the American Board of Sport Psychology. He is a member of the United States Olympic Paralympic Committee (USOPC) Registry of Mental Healthcare Providers and holds research appointments with Harvard Medical School (Department of Psychiatry) and McLean Hospital (Developmental Biopsychiatry Research Program in the Department of Psychiatry) Dr. Carlstedt is also the clinical and research director of Integrative Psychological Services of New York City. His doctoral dissertation on neuropsychological, personality, and performance processes in NCAA Division I athletes (baseball/softball, basketball, football, tennis, golf, volleyball, and track and field) was the recipient of the American Psychological Association’s Division 47 2001 Award for Best Dissertation in Sport Psychology. This research resulted in the validation of his widely acclaimed evidence-based biomarker-guided athlete assessment, mental training and psychological analytics protocol (see Archives of Clinical Neuropsychology) and was the basis for his book Critical moments during competition: A mind-body model of sport performance when it counts the most (2004, Psychology Press), Evidence-based applied sport psychology: A Practitioners Manual (2013, Springer Publishing) and Handbook of Sport Neuroscience and Psychophysiology (2018, Routledge). In the popular and media realm Dr. Carlstedt, a former professional team tennis player in Europe and consultant and coach on the professional tennis tours (from 1988-1998) has been published and featured worldwide over 500 times, appearing in magazines, radio and television spanning over 40 countries. He has mentored and trained over 150 undergraduates, graduates and psychologists in the ABSP Internship/Visiting Fellowship and Board Certification programs that he directs. Dr. Carlstedt has presented over 200 seminars, talks and workshops worldwide. He is currently spearheading start-up initiatives relating to his biomarker-guided peak mental game training and analytics and health and wellness research and applied protocols.
