Arctos is a private investment firm focused on creating valuable solutions to complex problems in partnership with sophisticated owners of premium franchises in the markets we serve. More about our firm can be found at www.arctospartners.com.
Arctos Insights is the research and technology arm of the firm. We emphasize creative problem-solving, rapid prototyping, and deep collaboration across investment and operational functions. We are hiring for our second in-house Software Engineer to help accelerate and scale our technology initiatives. The software engineering team works on projects encompassing the full spectrum of software development, from core engineering/infrastructure to application development. This position offers the opportunity to shape and evolve our software capabilities from the ground up. You’ll work closely with our small but growing engineering and data science teams, as well as investment professionals and others, to translate ambiguous, non-technical project ideas into tangible, high-impact applications. If you thrive in open-ended problem-solving environments and enjoy building robust software solutions, this role is for you.
This role provides candidates a unique opportunity to make an impact not just in engineering, but also in the broader technical evolution of the firm. As such, we value candidates willing to cover a breadth of the software development lifecycle even if past experience is vertical specific. In contrast to a typical software engineering role, this position requires a high degree of open-ended problem solving, curiosity and ability to learn new competencies quickly, and collaboration with non-technical personnel from around the firm.
Candidates can expect day-to-day projects including but not limited to the following use cases:
- data engineering and pipeline development
- open-ended workflow design and architecture
- AI/LLM agents development
- software design and application development
- Academic background in CS or previous professional experience in software engineering
- Proven ability to tackle ambiguous requirements and convert them into well-scoped projects
- Creative approach to software solutions, with a bias toward action and experimentation
- A passion for data analytics and a desire to gain exposure to AI concepts
- Experience or familiarity with Palantir Foundry a plus, but not required.
- Familiarity with finance or investing concepts (though not required).
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python preferred)
- Familiarity with basic data architecture design principles
- Experience with Git
- Exposure to data engineering or analytic workflows (ETL pipelines, data warehousing or ML tooling)
