Javier is the Head of Sports Analytics at F.C. Barcelona, where he combines research in soccer analytics and the development of statistical tools to aid coaches in a wide range of analysis tasks. He leads a team devoted to providing interpretable and practical performance insights to coaches through the development of statistical models. A typical week for Javier involves engaging in conversations with soccer experts, translating tactical concepts into algorithms and the development of visualization tools to explain findings.

Javier is currently a PhD candidate in Artificial Intelligence applied to soccer analytics. He has contributed to MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference with 4 papers in the last three years, including finalist selection in 2018, and first place in 2019.
