Purpose: The Data Engineer is primarily tasked with assisting in the ongoing efforts to maintain the club’s data infrastructure, develop more efficient data architecture and pipelines, help drive incremental revenue, provide actionable insights to decision makers, and continually develop our understanding of our fans and marketplace. This position requires a high work-ethic, an analytical mind, creative thinking, and a passion for telling stories through data.Major Responsibilities:Build, maintain, integrate, and troubleshoot data sources, data pipelines, and ETL/ELT processes across all business operations, such as social media data, digital and text message data, ticketing data, CRM data, and other business needed data as required within our data architectureResearch and develop API processes for extracting and storing new data feedsApply a combination of programming languages (SQL, Python, & R) to assist with multiple business functions across the clubCreate strategies to resolve, clean, enrich, and unify data of various types from disparate data sources and subsequently surface unified data to business applications and usersOversee all aspects of data management operations, including defining and resolving database problems, tuning for performance, and managing storageCollaborate frequently with IT department and other system administrators to implement vendor sourced software, configuring software, customizing, and integrating it with current systemsWork closely with data analysts to maintain and create data pipelines and data models to help provide actionable insights for decision makersResearch new technologies and methods across data science, data engineering, and data visualization to improve the technical capabilities of the teamDevelop efforts to maintain, clean, assist, innovate the club’s data architectureWork closely with Analytics, Ticketing, Marketing, and Partnership teams to assist in data segmentation and modelingSupport and innovate on-going revenue operations and data modeling effortsWork closely with all departments to dive deep into data and provide executive staff with actionable insightsDevelop and maintain innovative dashboards and database automations that can easily tell a complex story to decision makersAssist with everyday processes and other long-term projects as assigned
Bachelor’s degree in in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Machine Learning, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Economics, or a related field with focus on computer science, data science, or programming Minimum of one (1) year of experience with data engineering, ETL processes, and database architectureAdvanced working experience with SQL and Python languagesWorking experience with third-party APIs, especially RESTful APIs, and handling structured/unstructured data (XML, JSON, and natural language text)Experience learning, building, and optimizing ‘big data’ pipelines, architectures and data sets across a variety of source systems Experience working with Microsoft Dynamics, Microsoft Power Platform, Microsoft COE tools, and Power BI administration preferredExperience with relational OLTP and OLAP SQL systems; Azure SQL Database preferred but not requiredExperience with data pipeline and workflow management tools; Azure Data Factory preferred but not requiredExperience working with on-premises SQL server, SSIS, SSRS with an ability to learn Power BI report serverComfort in working with cloud computing and data warehousing environments; Microsoft Azure preferred but not requiredTechnological aptitude; an ability to troubleshoot and learn complex systems to solve problems and questionsTeam player with a positive attitude, self-confidence, professionalism, resourcefulness, integrity, motivation, and a very strong work ethicAbility to tell a business story from complex dataAbility to work gamedays to assist Analytics team as needed
