About BreakAway Data: BreakAway is an athlete data company focused on the creation and delivery of actionable, cutting-edge analytics directly to athletes. Our mission is to empower athletes and coaches alike to utilize data that drives the daily marginal improvements that culminate in winning games. BreakAway offers three products: (1) BreakAway App: First of its kind iOS App that centralizes, houses, and displays data for elite athletes. (2) Stacks: An athlete management system (AMS) tailored specifically for usage by coaches and integrated with the BreakAway App. (3) Field Labs: An on-field markerless motion capture assessment protocol to help with coaching, evaluation, and recruiting content. About the Role: BreakAway’s Data Engineer will be crucial in the development of our company. The position will work across our entire product line, developing the back-end infrastructure to service our iOS app, our web app, and our service offering. We are looking for someone to be the owner/point-person of our database - perform operational tasks, work with front-end developers to ship new features, and ensure scalability and reliability of our back-end. While this role is primarily back-end, data analysis capabilities are considered a strong plus. Diverse candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

Desired Qualifications

Role Responsibilities: Manage and create data pipelines: Lead in creation and maintenance of end-to-end data pipelines from external sources and internal sources to the data warehouse Platform administration: Administration of existing databases hosted on AWS (RDS), unstructured data hosted on AWS S3. Make and implement recommendations for AWS optimization, monitoring, and general best practices Documentation: Lead development of all back-end documentation of data structures and pipelines Collaboration: Work closely with our app development team to develop and ship new data-driven features Data integrity: Conduct data manipulation, error identification and handling, and data modeling on a routine basis to maintain data integrity Preferred Qualifications: 2 + Years of experience developing and owning databases, data pipelines, and back-end documentation Demonstrated experience with SQL and one of R / Python (fluency in both is a strong plus) Experience with cloud computing platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and deal with a project driven, fast-paced environment Demonstrated passion and knowledge for sports data (i.e., projects, community involvement, previous work experience)
