Paul Harraka, from Wayne, New Jersey, is both an undergraduate student at Duke University (Alice Azouri Mack Scholar) and an up-and-coming NASCAR driver. In short, because of the current economics of NASCAR, he has hit the ceiling on how much he can climb the NASCAR ladder on talent. Harraka has won in everything he’s been in, ranging from his 6 world championships in go-karts to a championship in the NASCAR All-American Series. Most recently, he competed in NASCAR’s highest regional touring series, akin to AA Baseball, winning 3 races in 3300 lb, 640 hp racecars. However, no amount of talent can continue to propel him up the ladder. As a result, Harraka partnered with a trio of MIT alumi: Houston Rockets GM Daryl Morey, North Bridge Venture Partners GP Carmichael Roberts, and Foro Energy CEO Joel Moxley to launch a unique motorsports company.
