Matt Chmura is in his second season with the Boston Bruins, and his first as the team’s Director of Communications, following one season as the club’s Director of Media Relations. In this capacity, he is responsible for the Bruins’ overall communications functions and strategies, while overseeing all media relations, publications and website editorial efforts.
A native of Taunton, MA, Chmura spent four seasons in the communications department of the New York based Major League Soccer team (MetroStars (2003-2005 seasons) /New York Red Bulls (2006 season)). During the 2006 season, he served as the team’s Vice President of Communications where he oversaw all of the team’s public relations, media relations, broadcasting and interactive media efforts.
Chmura began his sports career as an intern in the public relations departments of the New England Revolution (Major League Soccer), the Tennessee Titans (National Football League) and the New England Patriots (National Football League). He also completed a marketing internship with the Patriots.
Matthew is a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross with a BA in Political Science. Following his graduation, Chmura was named to a two-year term on the College’s Board of Trustees. Currently he is active on Holy Cross’ Alumni Marketing Council and also mentors Holy Cross students who are interested in the sports industry.
In addition to his professional activities, Chmura is active in non-profit work, as he currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Taunton Boys and Girls Club and is a volunteer at Children’s Hospital Boston.
Chmura is single and resides in Boston.
