Executive Vice President & CMO, Pittsburgh Pirates
Lou DePaoli was named the Pirates’ Executive Vice President & CMO in September 2008. In his role, he oversees the club’s marketing, ticket sales, premium seating, corporate sponsorship, in-game entertainment, promotions, alumni relations, creative services, business analytics, broadcasting, and communications efforts.
DePaoli came to the Pirates from the Atlanta Spirit organization, where he held the position of Executive Vice President & CMO for the Atlanta Hawks of the NBA, Atlanta Thrashers of the NHL, and Phillips Arena.
Prior to joining the Atlanta Spirit in May 2005, DePaoli was the NBA’s VP of Team Marketing and Business Development in the NBA’s Team Marketing and Business Operations department, and also worked for the Florida Marlins from 1996 to 2000 as the club’s Director of Ticket Sales and VP of Sales and Marketing.
DePaoli has established a reputation in the industry as a leader in business analytics as well as for recruiting, training, and developing talent. At the Pirates, he has assembled a top-notch team of top sales and marketing talent to generate revenue, which has been driven by the information and analysis provided by the team’s business analytics department. This combination has resulted in a data-driven culture that has been driving results through an emphasis on development, business intelligence, and execution.
Lou is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts where he earned his BA in Management of Professional Sports Organizations.
