James Holzhauer

Professional Sports Gambler & Jeopardy Champion

Nicknamed “Jeopardy James,” James Holzhauer is an American game show contestant and professional sports gambler. He is the third-highest-earning American game show contestant of all time and is best known for his 32-game winning streak as champion on the quiz show Jeopardy! from April to June 2019, during which he set multiple single-game records for winnings. James won the 2019 Tournament of Champions in November and will compete in “The Greatest of All Time” multi-night tournament with Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter in January 2020.

James attributes his aggressive Jeopardy strategy to the game of poker, where his goal is to quickly get out ahead of his opponents by winning large amounts of money early in the game. He became an avid poker player and expert in sports betting while a student at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign. After graduating from college, James moved to Las Vegas in 2008 to bet professionally on sports. He has built predictive models for baseball, NFL, and college basketball, but now focuses largely on in-game betting.
