Director of Player Personnel – Pittsburgh Penguins
Dan MacKinnon enters his second season as director of player personnel. MacKinnon oversees all aspects of the Penguins’ professional scouting operation in North America and Europe. He works closely with director of amateur scouting Jay Heinbuck to ensure that the Penguins have a comprehensive scouting network at all levels of hockey.
Prior to his current role, MacKinnon served two seasons as director of professional scouting for the Penguins. It is his fifth season with the organization as he spent 2006-07 as a professional scout. MacKinnon previously worked six seasons with general manager Ray Shero in Nashville, four as a professional scout and two as scouting coordinator.
Dan played junior and college hockey in Canada, graduating as an Academic All-Canadian from the University of Waterloo in 1998. He received a masters degree in Athletic Administration from Ohio University where he was an assistant coach with the men’s hockey program. Dan worked briefly for the American Hockey League Office and the Mississauga Ice Dogs of the Ontario Hockey League before joining the Predators in 2000.
Dan and his wife, Julie, have two children. They reside in Sylvania, Ohio.
