Ben is a PhD Student in Environmental Sciences and Engineering at UNC-Chapel Hill and works as a Research Assistant at the Center on Financial Risk in Environmental Systems.  His research is focused on characterizing the financial and economic risks associated with variable environmental/weather conditions.  He has studied this topic in the context of energy production, agricultural commodities, and inland shipping.  Ben holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Virginia and an M.S. in Environmental Sciences and Engineering from UNC.  Prior to graduate school he worked as an environmental engineer designing and implementing small-scale energy generation projects in sub-Saharan Africa and Central America. When he is not watching Virginia basketball, he can be found running on trails.
