Amy Loya

Phd Student, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

Amy Loya is a Ph.D. student in the Biomedical Engineering Department at RPI. She serves as the Community Service Chair for the Graduate Council, as well as the STEM Coordinator for 4th Family Inc. Prior to RPI, Amy received her B.S. in Bioengineering with a minor in Electrical Engineering at Union College. She was a captain of the women’s basketball team, 2014 Allstate/WBCA Good Works Team awardee, and 2014 NCAA Woman of the Year nominee. Her current research focuses on proteomic and mechanical characterization of stretch activation, a fundamental property of cardiac muscles. Through her efforts in STEM education and sports analytics, Amy hopes to merge her passions for engineering and athletics to empower students in underrepresented populations on the court and in the classroom.
