Alexander J. Stimpson

Alexander Stimpson is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Engineering in 2007 at the University of Florida, where he became a fan of both NCAA and NFL football. He then completed a Master’s Degree in Aeronautics and Astronautics at MIT investigating new displays for lunar landing. His current research focuses on the application of machine learning algorithms for assessing the performance of trainees. Alex and his co-authors’ investigation into momentum after big plays in the NFL, originally presented as a poster at SSAC 2012, has been featured in the 2012 Football Outsiders Almanac and on Wired.com.
