 DESCRIPTION

What does the future hold for league and team content delivery? Will leagues attempt to control all online content and statistics related to their players? What role do league owned channels play? Will the pace of dollars spent on television rights slow down? In the age of revenue-sharing, how should local media revenues be handled?

 PANELISTS

Lee Bushkell is the General Manager for PGATOUR.com, the official site of the PGA TOUR and the #1 site in golf. In addition to his PGATOUR.com responsibilities, Mr. Bushkell oversees the PGA TOUR Network on XM Satellite Radio and mobile development. Prior to joining the PGA TOUR, Mr. Bushkell worked for Turner Sports Interactive as Director, Consumer Products. Mr. Bushkell won Emmy Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Advanced Media in 2003 and 2005.

John Kosner was named Senior Vice President ESPN New Media in March 2003. In this role, Kosner oversees ESPN.com and the award-winning site’s editorial, production, sales and marketing operations. Additionally, he oversees ESPN360 the interactive and customizable broadband service from ESPN. Kosner most recently served as senior vice president of business operations and programming for ESPN.com since January 2002, overseeing business development and ESPN's product development in broadband, wireless, interactive TV and new technologies. Kosner joined ESPN.com in December 1999 as vice president of programming and broadband development, negotiating new agreements with the NBA and Major League Baseball, and spearheading a number of new programming sections, including ESPN.com’s horseracing and outdoors sections and ESPNRadio.com. At the 2001 X Games in Philadelphia, his group launched ESPN Broadband, a proprietary service for ESPN’s video distribution partners.

Kosner, a 20-year media veteran, began his tenure at ESPN as vice president of programming development for ESPN, Inc. While in this capacity, he was involved in the acquisition of ESPN and ABC’s exclusive prime time NFL rights, and the networks’ exclusive NHL package, as well as ESPN.com’s renewal of its exclusive NFL, NBA and NASCAR agreements. Kosner oversaw ESPN’s day-to-day programming relationships with the NBA, WNBA, and The Walt Disney Company, and worked on a wide variety of programming projects for ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN Classic, ESPN Pay-Per-View, ESPN Radio, ESPN Enterprises and ESPN.com. Prior to ESPN, Kosner joined Sports Illustrated in 1994 and was responsible for the planning and development of all television and interactive programming for Sports Illustrated and SI for Kids magazines. Before Sports Illustrated, Kosner spent seven years with the NBA, rising from broadcast coordinator to director of broadcasting and then to vice president of broadcasting. Kosner began his career at CBS Sports in 1982. Kosner was graduated with distinction from Stanford University in 1982 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in American History.

Jessamy Tang is CEO of J Sports Boston, LLC. J Sports Boston owns two radio stations (890 ESPN Boston (WAMG-AM) and 1400 ESPN Lowell (WLLH-AM)) in Greater Boston that are the exclusive ESPN Radio affiliates in the Boston radio market. Jessamy Tang oversees all aspects of these ESPN radio stations including advertising sales, programming, marketing, promotions, and finance. Prior to this position, Jessamy held several management positions with ESPN, Inc. and ABC Radio. During her tenure with the company, she was responsible for, developed, and oversaw ESPN Radio's strategy for ABC and transition from a syndicated programming provider to a full 24-hour, 7 day a week sports radio network and station business. Also, she was President and General Manager of ABC's radio cluster in Pittsburgh, which included an ESPN Radio station. Under Jessamy’s leadership, the station became the highest rated ESPN Radio station owned by ABC. The station earned four "Achievement in Radio Awards" and "Sports Personality of the Year" in 2001. Other accomplishments include making ESPN's first interactive television agreement and overseeing sales planning and administration for ABC Radio Networks.

She has also provided strategic media consulting services to professional sports teams, media companies, and sports leagues. She consulted to the Miami Dolphins in negotiating their broadcast & cable agreements which included domestic, international, English, Spanish, ancillary programming and play-by-play rights for radio, broadcast television, satellite television, and cable television. She also assisted Stanford Graduate School of Business in developing a custom designed executive education program for the National Football League. Earlier in her career, Jessamy was a management consultant for Deloitte & Touche. Jessamy holds a Bachelor of Science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Master in Business Administration from Stanford University's Graduate School of Business.

Shira Springer is the Celtics beat writer for the Boston Globe, where she has worked for almost a decade. Her coverage of the Celtics, the NBA, as well as the larger sports world has earned awards from the Associated Press Sports Editors for investigative and explanatory journalism. She has appeared on numerous ESPN programs and MSNBC, providing commentary on a wide-range of NBA and other sports-related topics. She is a regular guest expert on the Comcast program “Out of Bounds” broadcast throughout the Northeast. She provides internet content for the Globe and other sports-related publications and appears on NBA TV and NBA Radio programs, dealing daily with the ever-evolving intersection of print media, internet media and league-sponsored media. As a beat writer on the “front line,” she has unique insight into the changes affecting the coverage of professional sports. Springer earned a B.A. in Social Studies (Political and Social Theory and Philosophy) cum laude from Harvard College, where she was a distance runner on the cross country and track and field teams.
