Most baseball fans pay little attention to holding runners on base: as long as a pitcher throws the ball well to home plate, it barely matters whether he can also throw to first effectively.  But the impact of runner-holding is far greater than commonly believed, and ignoring or minimizing it is perhaps the biggest weakness in the current evaluation and projection of starting pitchers.  This presentation will demonstrate why this skill matters so much, analyze what the best pitchers do to keep runners close, and explain how both major league teams and fantasy players can use it to their advantage.
