Sports data has grown tremendously with technology that has allowed for a richer set of information than could have been imagined even 10 years ago. New data provides teams with significant opportunity to gain new insight and information that can lead to a real competitive advantage. New data can also be overwhelming as there is no guide to pull useful information out of the data that can truly be utilized in decision making. Using a methodological approach adapted from the tools of design thinking, however, clear priorities and concepts can be established to give the analytics team the best odds of producing impactful information from any new complex data set.
