Caught in a Pickle: What’s Next for Baseball Analytics

The traditional competitive advantages from utilizing baseball data are largely gone. Use of Sabermetrics is ubiquitous in baseball: each team has an analytics department (albeit of varying size) that helps drive on-field decision making and player personnel decisions. Yet the arrival of instantaneous ball tracking data and player movement data has caused the industry to once again reevaluate how it values players, constructs rosters, and attempts to optimize on-field decision making.
